NyconXL fibers are specifically designed to enhance post-first
crack properties of the concrete composite. They are ideal
for use in those applications where elevated dosage levels
of synthetic fibers are necessary, and where either ASTM Test
Method C1399 or C1609 is used to evaluate performance levels.
They significantly improve the pre-first-crack durability
properties of concrete and shotcrete, as well as post-first
crack properties. Thus, NyconXL fibers reduce the potential
of catastrophic failure and are ideal for impact and seismic-resistant
applications.
Additionally, NyconXL fibers provide these benefits at a
lower dosage rate when compared to other hybrid synthetic
fibers (i.e., fibers longer than the standard length of .75"
(19mm).

Dosage:
NyconXL fibers are specifically designed for use in those
applications where elevated dosage levels of synthetic fibers
are necessary, and where either ASTM Test Method C1399 or
C1609 is used to evaluate performance levels. ASTM C1399 and
C1609 measure the ability of the synthetic fiber to carry
post-crack load. In essence, the load is transferred from
the concrete to the fibers at the point of fracture. Fiber
length and the mechanical bonding properties of the synthetic
fiber are critical to performance.
Based on test data generated, approximately 3.4 pounds of
NyconXL per cubic yard of concrete are required to meet the
minimum Average Residual Strength of 115 psi (calculated from
C1399 generated data-see NyconXL Engineering Report under
"Additional Product Information.") As dosages of
other so-called "structural" fibers presently on
the market require a minimum of four pounds or greater per
cubic yard of concrete, NyconXL fibers are a more cost-efficient
fiber reinforcement alternative.
The typical dosage range for NyconXL is 3-7 pounds per cubic
yard, which provides additional engineering benefits above
and beyond the standard dosage levels of synthetic fiber.
New application opportunities can extend the dosage range
as high as 11 pounds per cubic yard and still provide an in-place
cost savings.
Business Value/Benefit of NyconXL Fibers in Concrete:
- NyconXL fibers fill a unique need in today's
concrete construction environment, in that they meet the
needs of engineers while reducing the in-place costs of
conventional practice.
- They eliminate the need for conventional secondary reinforcement
with attendant reduction in labor and material costs
- They are a more efficient secondary reinforcement system
than other hybrid synthetic systems.
- Generally, they are a more efficient secondary reinforcing
system for use in the unique applications of our post-9-11
construction era.
Technical Value/Benefit of NyconXL Fibers in Concrete:
- When introduced at 3.0 pounds or more per cubic yard of
concrete, NyconXL fibers amplify the enhancements typically
achieved with conventional synthetic fiber reinforcement.
The increased fiber volume, combined with decreased fiber
spacing and improved bonding, yield a superior secondary
reinforcement
- They increase Average Residual Strength (C1399) and Residual
Strength Factor (C1609).
- They dramatically improve impact resistance and penetration
resistance of the concrete element.
- They reduce potential of catastrophic failure.
- They significantly increase fatigue strength of concrete.
Applications:
- Airport new construction and repair of aprons and taxiways
- Built-in security and seismic safeguards to new structures
- Security and seismic upgrades of existing structures
- Industrial and warehouse floor slabs
- Tunnel liners
- Slope stabilization
- Septic tanks and other specialty precast shapes
