Q: When is the best time to introduce NyconÕs synthetic fibers to a self-consolidating concrete (SCC) mix?
A: As the name implies, self-consolidating concrete (SCC) is self-compacting. No additional effort is required by the contractor to achieve the desired density of the concrete.

SCC is very fluid. Rather than measuring slump, the SCC slump flow or spread of the mix, is measured.

When Nycon synthetic fibers are specified, they should be introduced at the proper point of the mixing sequence to ensure optimum distributionÑwhich is just prior to the addition of the SCC admixtures. The mortar with conventional ingredients and Nycon synthetic fibers should be allowed to mix for approximately three minutes before introducing SCC admixtures.

Nycon synthetic fibers, introduced at the standard dosage of 1.0 - 1.5 lbs/y3, will not modify the properties of the SCC.
