Q. Are Nycon nylon fibers alkali-resistant? What are the long-term durability properties of Nycon nylon fibers?
Nycon nylon fibers are alkali-resistant. This question relates to the high alkalinity of the cement, which can reach a pH of 11. Some fibers, fiberglass being an example, will disintegrate in a cement environment.

An extension of this question would relate to the overall durability of the Nycon nylon fiber in concrete. First, we have said the cement will not attack the fiber. We can add to this statement that no standard admixtures or additives used in concrete will attack the fibers. Materials like salt, aviation fuel and lubricants will not affect the performance of Nycon nylon fibers. Severe environments like water or wastewater treatment plant liquids will not alter the Nycon nylon fibers. It can then be concluded and factually supported that the long term performance of Nycon nylon fibers as a concrete reinforcement is excellent.
