KURALON RSC15
PVA Fibers for Long-Term Crack Control

KURALON PVA fibers are designed for long-term crack control of concrete. A dose of one pound per cubic yard can reduce drying shrinkage cracking at 28 days by 40% or more. This represents a 50% improvement over traditional polypropylene fibers.

KURALON RSC15 also provides superior plastic shrinkage control in concrete. The dramatic improvement in long-term crack control is a result of the molecular bond created by PVA with Portland cement. The bond strength is 300% greater than that of steel, glass, nylon or polypropylene. This high bond strength eliminates the need for longer fibers, making mixing easier with less impact on slump. The combination of high bond strength and low stretch makes KURALON RSC15 the superior choice for ready mix or any other concrete application where cracking is a concern. The higher density of KURALON RSC15 makes it easier to run through a fiber dispenser and less likely to float or cause a hairy surface. (The density of PVA is 1.3, polypropylene is 0.9 and water is 1.0.)

Dosage

Dosages of one to two pounds per yard are recommended for reduction of both plastic and long-term drying shrinkage in concrete.

Benefits of RSC15 in Concrete

Long-term crack reduction reduces the amount of water penetration, which causes steel reinforcement to rust and expand and results in permanent damage to concrete from spalling, as well as premature deterioration in a freeze-thaw environment.

Applications

KURALON PVA fibers are designed for all ready-mix and precast applications, as well as mortar or stucco mixes, and are a replacement for glass fiber reinforcement. Typical applications include:
  • New construction and repair of airport aprons and taxiways
  • Security and seismic safeguards in new structures and upgrades to existing structures
  • Industrial and warehouse slabs
  • Tunnel linings
  • Septic tanks, vaults, architectural and specialty precast shapes
