Proven effective in countless concrete applications, NyconG-PP fibers are made from 100% recycled reclaimed polypropylene carpet. For years little has been done with carpet waste besides throwing it away. Today, thanks to an advanced patented technology (U.S. Patent #6,971,784, other US and foreign patents pending), Nycon "harvests" carpet waste, much like an agricultural asset. Carpet once taken to landfills is now a resource for producing our proprietary, high-value concrete reinforcing fibers. And more than just conserving landfill space, recycling carpet saves water and reduces carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to global warming.
Along with outstanding performance properties at reduced cost, NyconG-PP fibers provide a further incentive to "go green" : They facilitate the process of obtaining project certification by the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Program, as well as provide tax credits to architects and owners.

Synthetic Fibers Reduce Spalling During Fire
The addition of short monofilament polypropylene fibers to ready-mix concrete during mixing have the beneficial effect of reducing spalling during a fire. In a very severe fire, such as the recent Britain-to-France Channel Tunnel fire, conventionally reinforced concrete can suffer severe spalling that lead to failure. This failure is due in part to the pore moisture remaining within the concrete boiling explosively - and the steam pressure that is created then causes the severe spalling. The spalling control action of synthetic fibers within the concrete is due to their ability to quickly melt, forming pathways out through the concrete to nearer the surface, allowing the steam pressure to dissipate.
NyconG-PP Physical Properties
Designed specifically for concrete reinforcement, NyconG-PP is a blend of fibers (.5" to micro length) and a carefully controlled percentage of calcium carbonate particles made from 100% reclaimed carpet. Both the fiber and backing from post-consumer and post-industrial carpet serve to produce NyconG-PP's high-performance concrete reinforcement. Fiber color is generally a light tan and will not affect performance or the aesthetics of finished concrete.
Production and packaging standards of NyconG-PP fibers adhere to strict quality control measures, including random testing to insure minimal environmental impact.
