The use of NyconSF steel fibers blended with Nycon's synthetic fibers increases the efficiency of steel fibers resulting in a super-high-performance concrete. A key benefit is an increase in the flexural and tensile strengths of the concrete for a given steel fiber dosage leve, as well as enhanced post-first crack behavior. This translates into excellent seismic response properties, as well as a longer concrete service life in conventional applications.
Value/Benefit in Concrete
NyconSF Steel Fibers:
- Increase flexural strength
- Improve fatigue strength
- Enhance abrasion and impact resistance
- Facilitate fast-track placement
- Permit greater joint spacing
- Eliminate the pumping typically required for WWF/rebar placement
NyconRC, MultiMesh, ProConF Synthetic Fibers:
- Greatly reduced plastic & hardened concrete shrinkage cracking
- Minimize plastic concrete settlement
- Increase the bond between steel fibers/mortar matrix
Applications
- Heavily trafficked exterior slabs-on-ground
- Super-reinforced industrial floor slabs
- Seismic and blast resistant structures
- Nuclear containments
Slabs-on-Grade
The combination of steel and synthetic fibers yields greater quantifiable engineering benefits than using only steel fibers at a given dosage level. The primary contribution of synthetic fibers added to steel fibers is a reduction in plastic and settlement shrinkage, which occurs in the first eight hours after placement. This benefit translates into an enhanced bond between the mortar matrix and the steel fibers. The improved steel fiber bond better utilizes their tensile strength properties. This attribute can potentially reduce the cross-section of the slab or increase the load capacity of the original design thickness of plain structural concrete slabs.
Shotcrete
A blended synthetic/steel fiber "cocktail" in shotcrete enhances the homogeneity of the mixture and measurably reduces rebound (shotcrete lost from the receiving face). NyconRC, MultiMesh or ProConF synthetic fibers enhance the efficiency of steel fibers in the cross-section. The load carrying properties after first crack for a given steel fiber dosage level increase, thus reducing the potential of catastrophic failure.
Dosage
Specific dosage rates for each fiber are dictated by the engineering properties required.
